Honesty Is The Best Policy OF Success

The Seed

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to chose a successor to take over the business. Instead of choosing one of his directors or his children, he decided to do something different.

He called all the young executives in his company together.

"It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO," he said. "I have
decided to choose one of you."

The young executives were shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to
give each one of you a seed today - a very special seed. I want you to
plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what
you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants
that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO."

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a
seed.

He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a
pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed.

Every day, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about
three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds
and the plants that were beginning to grow. Jim kept checking his seed, but
nothing ever grew.

Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others
were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt
like a failure.

Six months went by - still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed
his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim
didn't say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and
fertilizing the soil - he so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought
their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife that he wasn't
going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what
happened.

Jim felt sick at his stomach. It was going to be the most embarrassing
moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right.

He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at
the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful in
all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his
colleagues laughed. A few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young
executives.

Jim just tried to hide in the back.

"My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown," said the CEO.

"Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!"

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty
pot. He ordered the financial director to bring him to the front.

Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will
have me fired!"

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed.
Jim told him the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then
announced to the young executives, "Here is your next Chief Executive! His
name is Jim!"

Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed. How could he be
the new CEO the others said?

Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a
seed.

I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me
today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not
possible for them to grow.

All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers.

"When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed
for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty
to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be
the new Chief Executive!"

If you plant honesty, you will reap trust
If you plant goodness, you will reap friends.
If you plant humility, you will reap greatness.
If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment
If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective.
If you plant hard work, you will reap success.
If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation.

Why 140 Characters

Wondering why Twitter only allows 140 characters in status updates?
As it turns out, the reason the folks at Twitter picked 140 characters actually dates back to 1985. It all started with a decision made by Friedhelm Hillebrand, also known as “The Father of the Text Message.”
According to the LA Times, one day Friedhelm sat at his typerwriter at his home in Bonn, Germany and started writing a list of random sentences. When he went back through those sentences he noticed that they all clocked in under 160 characters and ran on for a line or two.
This initial, rather unscientific observation guided what would become more detailed studies that he oversaw while serving as chairman of the nonvoice services committee within the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). While in this position Hillebrand was influential in the early development of SMS technology standards for cell phone communications and from there the 160 character limit on text messages was born.
Twitter was built from the start to work via SMS in addition to the web, so because of this they built their service to meet this 160 character standard. The only difference was they kept an extra 20 characters open
to display user’s Twitter usernames. Any that’s why Twitter has a 140 character limit.

From the Twitter FAQ
We like to keep it short and sweet! It also just so happens that 140 characters is the perfect length for sending status updates via text message. The standard text message length in most places is 160 characters per message. We reserve 20 characters for people’s names, and the other 140 are all yours!

How To Gain Confidence In Your Life

Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and cringed at the image of yourself? If you are guilty of this practice then I would advice you to stop. If you are not happy with yourself, it indicates that you are having no confidence of yourself. If you lack confidence in yourself, then how do you expect others to have confidence in you?
Many people, old or young have insecurities about various things in their lives. It could of their physical appearances, speech, lifestyle, habits, work or even family.

Even at interviews, confidence helps you in clinching that job. Imagine a scenario where two candidates go for the interview where one is confident and assured while the other is a nervous wreck. No prizes for guessing who impresses the interviewer and gets the job.
First of all, you have to understand that confidence can be gained if you try. Of course nobody becomes super confident overnight. It takes time to become confident but it is undeniable that everyone can be confident if they try.
The following are ways where you can help yourself in getting confident
1. Like yourself
The first step in becoming more confident is to accept and like yourself. You should make a list of all your positive traits and strengths on a piece of paper or in your diary. By doing this, you are reminding yourself that you too have praise-worthy qualities like others. You will like yourself and feel confident about yourself after this.
2. Attend Seminars
It is good if you attend seminars where professional speakers offer you tips and guidance on gaining confidence. During the speech, you can even pick up tips on public speaking from the speakers by watching their body language and the way they project themselves.
3. Motivate yourself
Whether it is for an interview or for a presentation, tell yourself that you can do it. Motivate yourself each day and soon you will find your confidence level growing. Another good way for motivation is that after work or study each day you should make a list of at least four things that you did well for that day.
4. Overcome fears
Some people always have a fear that they can never be successful in anything they do. Such insecurity will be a disadvantage and would cause you to lack confidence in yourself and in everything you do in your life. So in order for you to get rid of this fear you have to remind yourself that if you haven’t try something you can never say that you will fail in it. Be positive and try things without any fear or insecurity. For example at work your boss is asking you to head a team but you fear that you will make a mess out of it. Such a fear will prevent you from taking on that task at work. But if you were a confident person you wouldn’t think twice about failing and would gladly take on that task. This shows that a lack of confidence could also affect your career.
5. Accept Failures
If you are always crying over the mistakes that you made in your life, you will never get anywhere. Always remember that past mistakes and failures cannot be reversed and what’s done is done. Thus it is no use crying over spilt milk. A confident individual always looks past those failures in his life. After all, failures are juts part and parcel of becoming successful. If you failed once you should take that failure as a learning lesson.

Everythings Has A Reasion To Life!!!

I trust that everything happens for a reason, even when we’re not wise enough to see it.
Oprah Winfrey
I believe this quote has an important truth we should remember. Life would be difficult if we think that things just happen at random. If we have such mindset, when something goes wrong we may lose heart and do not know what to do. It won’t be easy either to stay grateful and positive when something bad happens. Things will be much easier if we believe that there is a reason behind it and that it’s a part of our life’s picture.
Steve Jobs talked about this very topic in his famous commencement address at Stanford. He called it “connecting the dots”:

If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.
Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.
Are you having difficult time? Are you at an intersection in your life? Whatever it is, trust that the dots will connect in the future. It will take the pressure off yourself and enable you to walk your life with confidence.
Regarding bad circumstances, here is an important thing to remember: without the bad dots, the whole dots won’t connect as they should.
Bad dots are important. We like to think that only the good dots are important. But the truth is, bad dots are also essential. Our life picture simply can not be completed without them. Dropping out from college might seem like a bad thing for Steve Jobs, but it eventually allows him to bring good typography into personal computers. Similarly, something bad may happen to us, but it will make the picture of our life complete and wonderful.
So, if bad things happen, don’t think that they just happen without a reason. There is a clear reason: without them, the dots in your life won’t connect as they should.
